to send light into the
darkness of men's hearts
- such is the duty of the artist.
Robert Schumann
Background
My experience in graphic design officially started as an overload artist for Honeywell in 1977. When design and production was based on the use of manual drafting skills and hand illustration, there developed a pure sense of the foundation of aesthetics. Since then technology has changed and given me the opportunity to magnify my skills and talent. As computers came into play my skill set doubled as I weaved the old with the new. Having been learned in the realm of design and layout on an actual drafting table I was able to apply deep seated rules and processes to the vast and quickly evolving digital arena. I became more valuable than the contemporary students in that my prepress experience in partner with design and illustration offered the industry a wider lateral array of skills as well as depth in each category.
Today, the time spent in varied company types and industries has molded me into a designer/illustrator that can see not only the need in a project but the value in the designs of others. This makes for a positive team collaboration profile. Working with others to provide basic design production up to elegant collateral material has been the staple of my career. That is not to say I haven’t been able to prevail as a freelance designer. On the contrary. The entire spectrum of my experience has been saturated with commissioned work that filled any void of time that I had open and chose to take on.
